Does it seem like everywhere you turn these days you are seeing Turkish towels casually draped over a couch in a stunningly decorated room or dangling from the hand of some trendy traveller? People seem to have them under them, over them and around them.
Well, we have to admit you will probably see these kinds of pictures on our page too, and the reason why is because we like many others have fallen head over heels, madly in love with Turkish towels and we'll take every opportunity we can to tell you why!
Let's start by going over what a Turkish towel is. Often called a Peshtemal, Hammam or Fouta towel, authentic Turkish towels are flat loomed in Turkey using premium Turkish cotton. These towels have been used in the Turkish bathhouses for centuries.
This cotton has extra-long fibres, which creates a thread with fewer joins, resulting in a strong smooth thread that when woven creates a very durable product.
Why we LOVE Turkish Towels so darn much...
I was first introduced to Turkish towels by my sister and Co-creator of Collie and Co when I was constantly complaining about my towels never drying and going smelly in my small ensuite bathroom. I was continually having to wash the wet towels my three children never quite found the time to hang up.
Not to mention the never-ending stream of pool towels that I swear spent more time hanging over my pool fence drying than in actual use, or being eaten by my charming Beagelier Winnie.
Now, even the best towel in the world which sadly is not what graced my cupboards would struggle to stand up to this kind of use. Not even YouTube's greatest hacks could hold off the dreaded end of life of a regular terry towel. That stiff and scratchy feeling that made me feel like I was drying myself with sandpaper.
I had also gotten to the point where my linen cupboard was exploding just trying to keep up with the demand for my family of 5 plus 2 dogs. Enter stage left, my saving grace the Turkish towel.
It was LOVE at first use!
Now I have to admit I was unsure if I would be able to let go of my traditional towels, how could a towel that is so much thinner do as good a job. Here’s the thing. A good Turkish towel once bloomed dry’s you just as well if not better than a traditional towel.
Collie and Co towels, for the most part, are much larger than a standard towel allowing you to wrap yourself up in your towel, something my six foot three husband truly appreciates. I will be the first to admit that once I started using Turkish towels I became slightly obsessed.
You see these little gems are not just for jazzing up your bathroom. There is no limit to how you can use them, throws, beach blankets, gym or yoga towels and sarongs are just to name a few. I’m sure you’ll be as impressed as I was when I realised I could pack away my towels at the end of a beach day without bringing home half the beach in a wet heavy towel.
The best travel buddy ever!
Those with itchy feet love them for their travel adventures as they take up next to no room in your suitcase. They are great to take with you while you tour unknown destinations, want to go for a swim, got that covered, sun burning your shoulders, no worries. When day turns to night and the air gets a little chilly Turkish Towels can make a lovely wrap to keep you warm.
The many uses for Turkish towels are not the only selling features for these little beauties. They are low maintenance and only get better with use. When you first receive your new Turkish Towel it will be the stiffest it will ever be in its life and every day you use it only makes it better.
New adventures are just around the corner for you and your new bestie.
